SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, California – (December 16, 2021) – The finalists for the fourth annual Outdoor Retailer Innovation Awards were announced today. Determined by an independent judging panel , 35 outdoor products, materials, and retail services were selected as finalists based on their original design and impact from a pool of 152 total entries. All finalists will be on display during Outdoor Retailer Snow Show in Denver from January 26-28, 2022, and the winners will be unveiled during a live ceremony on Thursday, January 27, 2022.
"Developing a product or program from idea to launch takes incredible dedication, and we're excited to celebrate this year's finalists who are all using their expertise to improve the outdoor experience," said Marisa Nicholson, Outdoor Retailer senior vice president and show director. "The judges learned about an incredible group of entries this year, all who navigated challenging times to bring their vision to market. We're looking forward to seeing all of the finalists up close and watching the winners unveiled at Snow Show."
Freestone Equipment is a division of product design studio Pete Hill Ltd and is based in Squamish, arguably Canada’s climbing capital.
Their first product is the Love Handle, which is a handy new tool that offers a unique way to rack your trad gear and quickdraws. It will hit the market this year.
Small climbing gear startup Freestone Equipment partnered with IFMGA mountain guide Dale Remsberg to design its skill-building board. The RemsBoard (USD$125) is birch plywood with three bolt hangers to help climbers practice their belay stance and anchor building. In addition to the adjustable hanger configurations, the board also has slots for stoppers and a place in the center for a Bugaboo piton.
Dale Remsberg is a leading mountain guide who teamed up with Freestone Equipment to build the RemsBoard. It's a climbing anchor training tool that creates a safe environment to practice anchor and belay techniques.
